A five-star hotel in Switzerland, The Dolder Grand will begin accepting bitcoin payments as of next month.

Announced on Tuesday by the hotel’s tech partner, Inacta AG, who stated that the payment option would be available from the 1st of May.

Once the new payment option is implemented, guests will be able to pay for accommodation, food and beverage as well as spa treatments using Bitcoin. Inacta AG’s mobile application will convert Bitcoin payments into the Swiss franc or euro “as soon as the payment has been completed,” as per the statement, thus meaning no hotel staff will be responsible for handling the crypto.

André Meier, the Dolder Grand’s director of finance stated:

“Many of the improvements in our service in recent years were made possible by advances in technology. As we believe Bitcoin is here to stay, it only seems natural to offer more choices in the payment process.”

Notably, the bitcoin payment option was featured before as a part of a pilot project overseen by Inacta AG.

Many hotels across the globe have been accepting crypto payments dating back as early as 2014. The US-based travel agency CheapAir started a service which allowed bitcoin users to book hotel stays with digital currency back in February 2014.

Furthermore, in addition to this, in July of 2014 Canadian hotel group – the Sandman Hotel Group began accepting Bitcoin as a payment option for reservations. Lastly, more recently Casual Hoteles in Spain started accepting bitcoin on a pilot basis back in February 2019.
