It was only a matter of time before Hollywood decided to take a swing at a film rooted in the apparent dangerous and seedy world of cryptocurrency. Note how we used the word “apparent”.
Eleven hours ago a trailer for a film aptly named “Crypto” was released to the internet. The film which stars Luke Hemsworth, Alexis Bledel, Beau Knapp and Kurt Russell, produced by Yale Productions and distributed by Lionsgate and is set for cinematic release on April 12 2019.
The film follows the story of a Wall Street banker who uncovers a global conspiracy which involves those Adidas tracksuit wearing thugs of the Russian mafia.
The trailer, however, alludes to so much more. We see the lead character, played by Beau Knapp appear to be some sort of cryptocurrency whizzkid who manages to acquire a hefty amount in Bitcoin funds. There are guns, hackers, mafioso thugs and espionage? We’re not sure what the director is trying to say with his film, but the clear message we got from the trailer is that being involved in a web of conspiracy rooted in the world of cryptocurrency could land one in hot water.
Despite featuring Kurt Russell, this film is clearly a b-grade or budget Hollywood attempt at creating a thriller – perhaps the first of its kind which is set in the oh-so malicious world of crypto. I mean all of us crypto enthusiasts definitely need to watch our backs for hackers, mafia thugs and global conspiracies, right?
Without further delay, here is the first trailer for Crypto:
