By To kickstart 2019 after the recent acquisition of CoinBeat by R&D firm, CoinFabric, we decided to take to the road for a trip to secure partnerships and initiate our growth network in Seoul, South Korea. To say that we had the opportunity to meet interesting and inspiring individuals in the Blockchain and Crypto industry is a complete understatement.
Early into our business trip, we had the privilege to of meeting Dr. Youree Lee, not only an inspiration to us as a thought leader in the Blockchain space, but an inspiration to us as someone whose mission is to create true global impact and better the lives of those on the planet, as well as the living conditions of the planet itself.
Dr. Youree Lee has a resume that speaks for itself. A philanthropist and an entrepreneur, she is the CEO of W-Foundation, WGI Korea, and Adjunct Professor at Hanyang University School of Business. She is a pioneer in bringing blockchain to social finance and led the launch of the blockchain currency W Green Pay (WGP) for ‘HOOXI’, a global nature conservation campaign organized by W-Foundation and its public and private sector partners.
Dr. Lee has extensive investment and corporate banking experience at Macquarie and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, covering infrastructure and renewable energy project financing and relationship management. She received Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in International Business from Ewha Womans University and teaches business, strategy and finance at Ewha Womans University and Hanyang University.
W-Foundation is a global non-profit organization established in May 2012, with focus on nature conservation, climate change mitigation and relief for refugees impacted by climate change and natural disasters. It is designated as a ‘designated donation organization’ by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance of the Republic of Korea.
Cooperating closely with governments, organizations and communities, W-Foundation runs several projects focused on nature conservation, sustainability and climate action, with emphasis on building public awareness, research, field investigation and immediate relief. A recent project includes a Crypto and Blockchain project, W Green Pay.
Following the Korean government’s pledge made at the Copenhagen Accord of 2009, the country aims to reduce GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emission by 37% by 2030. To raise the public’s awareness and support for the country’s ambitious GHG emission reduction efforts, W-Foundation launched a mobile application called HOOXI App that monitors and rewards the effort of ordinary citizens to reduce GHG emissions. WGP is distributed to individuals as tokenized reward in order to increase the public’s participation in the efforts to reduce GHG, providing compelling incentives for the public to complete GHG reduction tasks and report them on the HOOXI App.
HOOXI App is available in Korean as of now. English version is expected to launch by May 2019.
