Cryptocurrency enthusiasts can rejoice as the world could finally see this asset class going mainstream with the upcoming release of a crypto wallet which will be tied to WhatsApp, currently hailed as the world’s best and most popular messaging app.

Dubbed “Wuabit” this new cryptocurrency wallet will be available via a chat interface rooted in WhatsApp. The developers have described the wallet as a “software agent” which is powered by specialised artificial intelligence (AI). All users need to do is type in commands such as “send 0.05BTC to Fred”, and Wuabit will automatically send the funds.

Wuabit believes that by utilising a messaging as popular as WhatsApp that cryptocurrency payments could be further thrust into mainstream adoption.

A Wuabit spokesperson stated:

“We are near completing the wallet core service starting with BTC. By using WhatsApp/SMS/Telegram you can access that wallet easily.”

The spokesperson added:

“Crypto payments via WhatsApp can introduce greater numbers of new users who only know how to chat to this complicated space. Usability is key in user adoption and a great enabler.”

Wuabit has announced plans to beta test the service publically as of next month. According to a post made by the Wuabit team on Medium, the developers have plans to include additional services to their offering with hopes of adding integrated price checking and trading in the future.

Other Cryptocurrencies On The Horizon:

Of course, you’re probably wondering if Wuabit has plans to integrate other cryptocurrencies, and the answer is yes. According to the Wuabit website, there are plans to expand to other crypto assets such as Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Ethereum (ETH).

In addition to this, Wuabit has also announced plans to extend their services to other renowned messaging apps such as Telegram, Facebook Messenger and Viber.

The goal in mind is simple, by providing services from within a familiar platform, perhaps more unwashed users might interesting in dipping their toes into the crypto pond.

Wuabit’s spokesperson added:

“Crypto payments via WhatsApp can introduce greater numbers of new users who only know how to chat to this complicated space.”

Could Wuabit’s Service Make A Notable Difference For Crypto Adoption?

Although bolstering cryptocurrency adoption is a noble and much-needed cause for the developers at Wuabit, only time will tell just how much of an impact the service will have.

The service will require users to take additional steps to use the service, and they would still need to have a curiosity about crypto before making the extra effort. The notion of full integration of digital wallets into already established applications or products is more likely to influence the tide of new users adopting cryptocurrency, for example, Samsung’s S10 which launched with a built-in wallet. That being said, many enthusiasts were disappointed to learn that the wallet service is only available as a default in a handful of countries.

The crux of the matter here is the fact that companies are striving towards making crypto adoption easy for the unwashed masses. If more businesses began adding this to their ethos then perhaps in the near future we could see the surge of adoption the crypto industry needs.
