Chinese cryptocurrency mining giant Bitmain recently launched a new miner for the privacy-driven cryptocurrency zcash, which it claims holds three times more hashing power than that of its predecessor.

Bitmain made the announcement on Tuesday stating that the new ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) miner dubbed the Antminer Z11, is designed to mine crypto assets which are based on the Equihash algorithm, for example, zcash.

The mining rig firm added that the new miner features a hashing power of 135K sol/s (solutions per second), which is apparently “three times more powerful” than its previous Equihash miner, the Antminer Z9 which was released to the public back in May 2018.

In a nutshell, Sol/s is equivalent to h/s (hashes per second), which is the number of hash computations created per second in crypto mining.

Furthermore, Bitmain also stated that the Antminer Z11 sports a 12-nanometer chip which is notably more energy-efficient thanks to its new internal circuit structure which is able to save up to 60% of power cost in comparison to its predecessor.

Interestingly enough, Bitcmain launched the Antminer Z9 during the time when the zcash community was divided as whether the network should be updated to become ASIC-resistant which means the network would restrict miners who use ASICs, which as we know, are more powerful than ordinary GPUs.

However, back in June 2019, members of the zcash community voted against changing the network rules to make it ASIC-resistant.

Bitmain stated:

“To preserve the Zcash community’s values around security, reliability and accessibility,”  the firm would  “continue to provide shipping updates of the first batch of the Antminer Z11.”

Back last month, Bitmain also rolled out its new 7-nanometer mining processor the BM1387 which was developed for proof-of-work cryptocurrencies based upon the SHA256 algorithm such as Bitcoin and Bitcoin cash.
