In what is possibly the biggest announcement that is cryptocurrency related for this week, internet giants Google have changed their views on cryptocurrency ads and reversed their ban on all crypto-related adverts which of course was implemented earlier this year.

Earlier this year in March 2018, the world’s biggest and most widely used search engine, Google followed in the footsteps of Zuckerberg, Twitter and many others when they announced a complete blanket ban for all cryptocurrency related advertising.

This included everything pertaining to ICO’s, trade advice, wallets and more. As was to be expected, the cryptocurrency market suffered from price fluctuations, scepticism and ultimately a decline in value due to the loss of visibility of these ads and the attraction of new, potential investors.

A new update in Google’s Financial products and services policy will see the implementation of regulated cryptocurrency exchanges being able to once more advertising in the USA and Japan.

At this time, no other countries have been included in this ban-lift, but Google has stated that for those advertisers who seek to be certified to advertise in their countries that they’ll be able to apply for certification come October when the policy kicks in.

As you’ve noticed already from what we just divulged, this lift doesn’t include other crypto products like wallets, ICO’s and trading advice and unless Google makes another announcement it seems that these products are to stay under the blanket ban.

Could Google’s Ban Removal Have Happened Prematurely?

As we mentioned above, Google followed in Facebook’s steps and banned crypto-related advertisements earlier this year but it must also be noticed that it was Zuckerberg’s social network that lead the charge when lifting bans on crypto advertising.

It was in June 2018 that Facebook announced the change in their advertising policies which allowed specific kinds of crypto-related ads to run on the platform. However, it seems that Google may have already begun lifting their ban before recently announcing it. Several users on Reddit had reported that they had seen Coinbase ads running on Google through AdWords but at the time Google nor AdWords had announced a ban-lift yet.

But Did Google Never Like Cryptocurrency?

If you’re old enough to remember this, you’ll remember that Google started out as a kind of emerging disruptive tech company much like the same way that cryptocurrencies are perceived by many in this day and age. Google, as we know, started out disguised as a small search engine and had they not garnered the exposure that they have in the past decades, they might never have reached the status they currently hold today.

Google does seem to be doing everything in their power to crush the important exposure that digital currencies need. We know that they banned crypto ads already but in addition to the blanket-ban, Google also banned Chrome extensions that helped users mine cryptocurrencies as well as all crypto-mining apps that were available on the Google Play Store.

This created some obvious confusion amongst developers as earlier this month, crypto apps like CoPay, BitPay & Bitcoin Wallet were all removed from the Play Store. Google CEO Roger Ver later admitted that these apps were mistakenly removed by Google as employees thought they were included in the policy update which barred apps from mining digital currencies such as BTC and Monero.

With this ban-lift underway, do you think that cryptocurrencies will receive better exposure? Could this result in better prices to come? Let us know your thoughts.
