A few weeks we reported that French football team PSG was set to launch their own fan token or currency and this week Italian champions Juventus announced that they’re about to partner with a blockchain company to launch their own token, this being the “Juventus Official Token.”

This token is to be launched as part of the club’s strategy with blockchain platform Socios.com. The plan is to utilise Juventus’s 340 million plus fan base in an effort to expand upon their fan engagement strategies. The plan is to focus on the millions of fans who are not in the EU, but instead from other regions in the world, and to create a more bespoke, intimate experience for them.

Juventus Fan Token Offerings

Juventus officials recently announced that this fan token will be up for grabs to fans through an innovation known as a Fan Token Offering or “FTO”. They also announced that they’re hoping to launch this FTO as early as the first quarter of 2019.

Fans who hold these tokens will be eligible to receive many benefits, including exclusive mobile voting, polls and more, ultimately creating a space where fans voices could be heard and improving comradery between fans and the club.

Giorgio Ricci, Co-Chief Revenue Officer & Head of Global Partnerships and Corporate Revenues of Juventus of the champion club had this to say about the FTO, ahead of its launch:

“Juventus is glad to welcome Socios.com to our partners. At the Club, we are always very careful and pro-active towards innovation and new technologies. Together with Socios.com, we believe we can offer new opportunities to our worldwide fan base to engage in a cutting-edge way with their favourite club.”

Other notable soccer clubs to have recently announced fan token’s or interest in blockchain offerings for their fans included well-known English Premier League teams such as Liverpool, Wolverhampton, Tottenham, Newcastle, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Cardiff City in Wales.

Lastly, the world of cryptocurrency & blockchain seems set to merge with the massive sector that is professional football. European football’s behemoth company UEFA have even gone as far to trial a blockchain technology ticketing system for a past game that took place between Real Madrid and Athletico.

What could be next? FIFA token offerings? A blockchain ticketing system for EPL?  Let us know your thoughts.
