The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA, is looking to embrace blockchain technology. NASA is looking to recruit a big data scientist who should have experience with cryptocurrency and blockchain. 

According to a Linkedin job advertisement, NASA is looking to hire a data scientist with knowledge in machine learning, Internet of Things, analytics, as well as big data and cloud computing. As an added advantage, the candidate should be knowledgeable in blockchain and cryptocurrencies. The post is clearly saying, “Experience with cryptocurrency and Blockchain is considered a plus.”

Before outlining the responsibilities of the recruit, the job details acknowledge that the company is looking for an individual who is, “driven to discover, create, and inspire something that lasts a lifetime and beyond, you’re ready for JPL.”

Listed Responsibilities and Qualifications 

The approved candidate will become a member of a team of data scientists’ and innovation experts. This team makes up for JPL’s Innovation Experience Center (IEC) in addition to being a member of the Chief Technology and Innovation Office located in California.  

Without compromise, the individual must possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Freedom to express him or herself among all levels of staff, including management, is crucial. There has to be a balance between interpersonal and technical aspects of the individual. 

With a shortage of blockchain and cryptocurrency specialists, probably a handful of individuals have the opportunity to join NASA under this role. It is evident that more industries are embracing blockchain technology. Blockchain technology is the founding block of cryptocurrency. In addition, it is a major incorporation for some largescale projects that promote privacy and anonymity. 

Earlier in the year, NASA explained that they are considering exploring the potential use of blockchain. The company’s objective was to promote secure, private, and anonymous communication with its air traffic services. Mid last year, Debris-dodging spacecraft was said to use bitcoin-like technology. As indicated by Jin Wei Kocsis, an assistant professor at the University of Akron, Ohio, NASA awarded a $330,000 grant to support this venture. This venture aimed to develop autonomous spacecraft that could make more decisions without human intervention.
