On July 23rd, 2019, Refereum, a blockchain-based reward, and marketing company in the United States, announced its partnership with an online games developer and publisher based in South Korea for expansion in its in-game reward scheme.

According to the startup firm, PUBG players would use the native token Refereum (RFR), as a reward.

Refereum agreed to supply RFR tokens for initial rewards to PUBG. Dylan Jones, Refereum CEO, had this to say:

“PUBG has granted Refereum special access to the PUBG login system, and we’ve tightly integrated our quest technology into the game through access to their production API.”

The initial campaign is set to end on August 20th. During this time, PUBG would be able to earn RFR tokens through daily completion of essential tasks and logging rewards.

A gaming platform, Steam, reported that PUBG gets 350,000 players on daily, making it the best mobile game of 2019. The mobile version of PUBG has even more downloads averaging to more than 100 million.

“PUBG is the perfect example of a game that wants to reward its hardcore following. Utilizing blockchain to do so helps them tap into their entire player base of influencers with micropayments, no matter their size, instead of rewarding only the biggest names.” Dylan Jones.

Tokens Available to 8 Million Players

Players would earn tokens through completing tasks such as marketing, besides the necessary actions in the game. Such a reward scheme would be the first feature for the company. Jones, in a press release, commented on gamers not getting sufficient compensation for their free marketing services for games through social media and streaming services.

Blockchain gaming is, on the other hand, gaining popularity as a highly profitable niche of the entire blockchain phenomenon. Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, revealed they have set a funding worth $3.75 million for a blockchain games studio.

Refereum revealed that they also extended their offer for the partnership to other games such as Fortnite, State of Decay 2, the Battlefield series, and Apex Legends. At the beginning of 2018, Refereum had a token sale which yielded a total of $32 million, after conducting the Initial Coin Offering (ICO).

Meanwhile, everyone is curious about the benefits of the RFR tokens earned in the PUBG game have to the players. Well, just like any other gaming coin token, a player would be able to buy weapon skins, a Royale pass, and send tips to their favourite players.

This is big news for Refereum and the entire crypto space, as blockchain technology makes the gaming experience more exciting and fun. Major corporations have also set their eyes on this sector, something that’s inevitable since the cryptocurrency industry gets hotter by the day.
