South Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung recently announced plans to bring cryptocurrency & blockchain features to more phones included in its Galaxy smartphone range.

A local publication, Business Korea, broke the news on Tuesday citing a press release from Samsung, stating that the company would make its digital wallet application available to lower-cost models and also further expand the crypto capabilities to more countries.

Senior managing director of the product strategy team at Samsung Electronics’ wireless business division, Chae Won-cheol stated:

“We will lower barriers to new experiences by gradually expanding the number of Galaxy models that support blockchain functions. We will also expand our service target countries after Korea, the United States and Canada.”

Currently, the Samsung Blockchain Wallet is only available on Samsung’s Galaxy S10. In addition to the digital wallet, the S10 also features digital signing and decentralized apps (dapps) and the report also suggests that these features could be added across the Galaxy range.

Furthermore, Business Korea also stated that Samsung is in talks with telecom firms SK Telecom and KT Corporation to work on blockchain-based digital ID verification tools as well as other projects.

During the past few months, Samsung has continued to wade into the waters of the blockchain and crypto industries.

As reported by Coinbeat, after Samsung revealed the blockchain features of the Galaxy S10, the firm stated its also at work developing its own native blockchain based on ethereum as well as the possibility of launching a Samsung Coin token in the future.

Notably, the electronics company also recently invested $3 million in Ledger, the cryptocurrency wallet startup.
