The Ethereum Network recently announced details on a three-stage plan in allocating $30 million which it has set aside for the development of the Ethereum network over the next year. The news was released in a blog post on May 21st.

The breakdown for the three categories is as follows: $19 million will go towards future projects, $8 million towards current projects and developer support will see $3 million allocated. Most of the funding, of course, will go towards Ethereum 2.0 initiatives, which include research, layer two projects such as Plasma, client teams and documentation and communication.

Plasma, which was first proposed back in 2017 by CEO & founder Vitalik Buterin and Joseph Proon is a scaling solution for the network which will deploy smart contracts. Plasma will enable “ the blockchain to be able to represent a significant amount of decentralized financial applications worldwide,“ as per the whitepaper.

The announcement of the $30 million budget was first announced by the Ethereum Foundation at the ConsenSys Ethereal Summit on May 10th. Aya Miyaguchi, the executive director at EF, stated that the foundation has intentions to include academic involvement for Ethereum, in hopes that it would entice top-tier researches and developers and ultimately grants for its academic teams and organizations.

Lastly, the Ethereum Foundation announced the re-release of its community website back in April, which is a repository made up of all community-created Ethereum content, which includes tutorials and documentation for using a variety of Ethereum tools.
