Justin Sun, founder and CEO of TRON, has confirmed the launch of BitTorrent File System (BTFS) mainnet on his official twitter page earlier on in the day.

The start of October has good news for the TRON Foundation community with the launch of the BitTorrent File System, BTFS. The launch was active with the integration of BTFS into the world’s largest P2P network, BitTorrent.

This stage marks a milestone in the BitTorrent ecosystem following the initial announcement made mid-year in July that launched the BTFS testnet. During the briefing, the testnet was available to the Tron blockchain. However, the testnet would also be open to the BTT ecosystem later in the stage. The successful completion of the testnet led to the launch of BTFS in the recent update. In Sun’s tweet,

“A big step forward! #BTFS has been successfully integrated to #Bittorrent Client. Q3 targets 100% accomplished! #BTT will be fully integrated into #Bittorrent decentralized economy in the near future. Ready to embrace the revolution?”

At the Q3 2019 stage, the mainnet will power TRON DApps that require a decentralized storage network.

Features and Benefits of BTFS

According to a post on the Tron Foundation official Medium page, the company highlights the features and benefits attached to BTFS Mainnet. Its two major features include the removal of files and directories and the ability to import a TRON private key, a 12-word BIP39 seed phrase.

As part of BTFS’s benefits, it guarantees reliability and cost-effectiveness. Also, it has greater decentralization as well as comes with an advanced incentive mechanism. Looking at the advantages, there is no change of local interruptions with stored files. In addition, storage and maintenance costs are relatively lower than those of current competitors in the market.

Users’ data is stored in a decentralized way, ensuring file security. With the introduction of a token economy, users will be able to store more data and retrieve more files. Therefore, it will promote more meaningful value exchanges of stored files.
