Twitter CEO and owner of Square, Jack Dorsey is said to be on the hunt for a new team of five members to work full time on contributions to the cryptocurrency and bitcoin industries.

As the cryptocurrency winter continues to display definite signs of going through a cold snap and thawing, more excellent news continues to flow into the industry. Jack Dorsey, Twitter CEO who’s a well-known advocate of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency recently announced that he’s on the hunt to hire between 3 to 4 new developers as well as one full-time designer via his financial services company Square, to work on opensource contributions to the bitcoin and cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Dorsey, who has often dubbed Bitcoin to be the natural native currency of the internet, is suspected of spending more than $10,000 per week on the cryptocurrency.

Dorsey’s Square Project:

Dorsey’s initial tweet announcement was the beginning of a thread in which the Twitter CEO further elaborated upon what his hopes for job appointments are. He kicked off with a brief prelude as to what led him to the decision to open up applications to his small team. He went on to explain that this initiative would not be a commercial objective-driven venture but preferably one that is altruistic. This move is an effort to bolster and improve the cryptocurrency ecosystem for users in terms of user interface and everything going on in between.

He stated:

“This will be Square’s first open source initiative independent of our business objectives. These folks will focus entirely on what’s best for the crypto community and individual economic empowerment, not on Square’s commercial interests. All resulting work will be open and free.”

With this admirable ethos, Dorsey has promised to make everything which his team creates freely available and opensource, alluding to the fact that he feels it is time for him to give back to the internet in return for everything that he was received in the past from opensource repositories.

He added:

“Square has taken a lot from the open source community to get us here. We haven’t given enough back. This is a small way to give back, and one that’s aligned with our broader interests: a more accessible global financial system for the internet.”

Dorsey’s Designer Role:

Dorsey’s ad also mentioned that he’s seeking to add one designer to his team. The Twitter CEO goes on to explain his reasons for this adding that User Experience and User Interface are two areas in the crypto space which need serious work. Despite this seeming like a problem that is less important than keeping the machine working, it is a notable area in dire need of improvement.

If new users are to adopt the world of cryptocurrency and are not able to efficiently utilise the technologies they won’t use them.

Twitter & The Internet’s Reaction:

The response on both Twitter and Reddit has been overwhelmingly positive with many big names in the cryptocurrency arena such as Julian Hosp and Richard Heart singing praises to the announcement. In addition to this, many Reddit users have met the statement with warmth with many users praising how great this move would be for the cryptocurrency industry.

Not everyone was positive in their response, however, with one user stating:

“’hires 4-5 people’… do you have any idea how many people Jack Dorsey employs…? This is like you getting a high school intern to work an hour a week for free.”

There will always be naysayers. The crypto and blockchain world has thrived despite those who have a negative stance towards it. If Dorsey lives up to his promise, this news will most certainly have a profoundly positive effect on the industry in the long run.
