Back in February, the Binance Charity Foundation (BCF) which is the philanthropic division of the crypto exchange giant Binance, unveiled its pilot blockchain-enabled donation platform for its Lunch For Children program.

The official launch took place on the 19th of February at the Jolly Mercy Learning Centre in Kampala, Uganda with the goal of providing two meals per day for a full year to more than two hundred learners and school staff.

The blockchain-powered donation platform launched at a ceremony attended by more than 500 guests including students, parents, sponsors and school partners officiated by H.E. Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, Uganda’s Minister of State for Primary Education, and Dr James Ssekiwanuka, the headmaster of Jolly Mercy Learning Centre.

Zcoin sponsored the first year lunch for the Jolly Mercy Centre. The Jolly Mercy Centre is a private school in a small village on the border of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. The school was founded in 2006 through funding from philanthropic donations and was set up as a non-profit educational institution. The school is committed to nurturing the development of children, especially vulnerable children, with a mission to develop and become a leading and trustworthy school in the local community.

Binance set up an open crypto wallet for the student’s parents, guardians, school employees and suppliers to ensure that all fund donations are traceable on the chain. The foundation set up a monthly reporting system to collate data on school operations as well as updates on how the project has progressed by listing the number of beneficiaries, the form of assistance provided and of course how much was donated.

So far, the initiative has raised 9.3849 BTC which equates to 36232.33 USD with 77 donations from 95 individual recipients.

Binance released a heartwarming video today to celebrate the success of the program so far. Watch it here and if you’re interested in donating click here.
