A New Hampshire-based Free Talk Live broadcast show (FTL) recently announced that it has raised over $80 000 towards the establishment of a new orphanage for children in Uganda.
The initiative to construct an orphanage in a remote Uganda village was led by The Foundation of Hope Uganda and one of the foundation’s ministers, Ndifuna Johnson, with most of the funs coming from an unexpected source, the listeners of the radio show.
By utilising FTL’s cryptocurrency donation jar, listeners were able to donate DASH, BTC, BCH through Shapeshift. Co-host of the show, Mark Edge has put out a call to action and donations via his broadcasts which reaches almost 200 radio stations.
The project has already seen an outstanding $45 000 raised in crypto funds for the construction of the orphanage with an additional $35 000 acquired for the purchase of the land upon which the children’s home will be built upon. In addition to this, FTL has also previously roped in Bitcoin.com, Cell411 and the Shire Free Church in an effort to raise the crucial capital.
It’s all hands on deck, with many surrounding villages contributing where they’re able to in order to make this a reality. This also includes the handcrafting of thousands of clay bricks in anticipation of the funds being raised. Mark Edge was clearly taken aback by the level of activity within the community and the high spirits which has been displayed by all since the project announcement stating:
“They did it piece by piece, first the foundation, walls, second floor, bit by bit. It looks great and can fit 40 kids. It also functions as a sort of community centre for all the children in the village.”
With the orphaned children in good care, the orphanage/community centre also means that residents in the tiny village are now free to take on other essential tasks which will aid in the livelihood of the community, for example, growing crops and tending to livestock.
